Keeping Up on Cat Litter Boxes

Keeping a cat is one of the simpler pets that you can keep. While most felines are self sufficient and are willing to care for themselves, there are still a few little things that you will have to be responsible for. The most important of these things involves feeding your cat and making sure that they have enough clean water every day. The second most important thing, however, is not quite as clean or easy. Keeping up on the litter box can be trying, especially if you have an aversion to waste products. At the same time, it is something that you will have to do in order to maintain a healthy cat and a healthy home. To this end, here are a couple of simple things that you can do to make the process simpler.

Choose Clumping Litter

The best way to make sure that the upkeep of your litter boxes is something that you don’t spend all day on is to purchase high quality litter that clumps when it is wet. This makes the cleaning process easier by clumping together when your cat uses the bathroom. Then, all you need to do is scoop the box with a good litter scoop and you will easily be able to remove the waste while letting the clean litter remain. Not only does this make it easier for you to keep up on the box, but it will also save you money because you will not be getting rid of good litter when you are cleaning. Instead, this will reduce the waste and the amount of litter that you actually use.

Buy a Good Scoop

Not all litter boxes are created equal, and not all scoops are either. There are some out there that are really flimsy and will not really help you scoop anything that is heavy. Instead, if you are to invest the couple of dollars into a heavy duty scoop, then you will be able to easily scoop any large chunks that make their way into your box. These thick scoops will also help you get the buried pieces of waste that are in the box, allowing you to get a cleaner result. Both your cat and your nose will thank you for that.

Scoop Often

No matter how many cats you have, or how many litter boxes you might have stashed around the house, the best way to keep up on them is to scoop them often. While some people choose to scoop their box daily, other people can stick to every two or three days. Remember, the more waste that builds up in the box, the more of a mess you are going to have to deal with. If there are high levels of waste in the box, your cat might even find a new place to use the bathroom. In order to keep this from happening, make sure that you keep these simple things in mind and adhere to this process in order to keep your litter boxes well maintained and easily kept up on.
