All cat owners know that their animal needs a litter box, but what not all cat owners know is that these boxes are not always alike. In fact, there are plenty of differences between litter boxes these days. Not only are there plain ones like we all know about, but there are technologically advanced ones that make cat owner’s lives easier by scooping the waste for them. Owning a cat is a great experience, but you need to make sure that you choose the right bathroom area for your pet. Consider the following choices when you are ready to buy.
Automatic Litter Boxes
Perhaps the newest type of litter box on the market these days is something known as an automatic litter box. This is a type of container that automatically cleans itself without an owner or operator having to scoop or clean it at all. There is a comb attached to a moving part that is pulled across the litter each time a cat leaves the box. Special sensors know when there is an animal inside the device, so it does not move when your pet is in the actual box. This will prevent problems that might occur if the comb were to move while your animal was using the bathroom. Once your pet has left the box, the comb collects any waste and moves it to a closed container that an owner needs to replace every week or so. This makes cat ownership simple, but it is an expensive route to take.
Boxes with Lids
Another common litter box these days is called a hooded box, or a box with a special lid. While this lid covers the box, it does not block your pet from going inside. There is a special door that allows access to the litter, which some cats do not like. If your pet does agree with this particular container, then you will be able to hide the waste until you are ready to scoop it and discard any used litter. This box still requires that an owner clean it once a week at least, if not more often. Most of them, however, do have a filter at the top that prevent stinky smells from emanating, which is always a plus. While not all cats will use this kind, it can be a good solution for families and well kept houses with nowhere to really hide a normal container.
Plain Old Squares
The one kind of litter container that people are very familiar with is just a plain litter box. There are still many choices available to you in this realm, as these containers come in a variety of sizes and colors. If you want your home to match, then consider color coordinating your container to something else that is in the room where the box will be kept. If you only have one small cat, you can often get away with a smaller box, while larger or multiple felines will require more than a tiny box. There are many things to keep in mind, so always remember that you do have choices. There are many different litter boxes out there to choose from, all you need to do is find the best one for you and your beloved pet.
